ASH Box Opening
Firstly, we’d like to thank FFG for sending us a content creator kit, allowing us to open some product early and show everyone a little bit of what to expect with Ashes of the Empire.
Ashes of the Empire looks to be one of the most impactful sets we’ve had for Star Wars Unlimited in some time. The Empire may be crumbling, but the villains are certainly not going down without a fight! The legendary quality is much improved, which should make the box opening experience exciting.
Quick note…
Many other creators are doing videos. That’s not our thing. We write stuff. So all the ASMR fans that like to hear the packs ripping open and the slap of each card being put onto a table are out of luck.
Onto the packs…
So, was it indeed exciting? Well, pack one had this sweet looking Prestige legendary, The Mandalorian. That set us off on a pretty good start. The Mandalorian looks to be a great legendary. He may be more limited to start due to the presence of the new Cad Bane Leader, but as a card, he’s very good.

Were we able to maintain that momentum into the next pack?

Obviously pack two was a downer after the first one, but we would say this was a very typical box of what you can expect. There are enough good legendary cards where we think you can expect around 3 cards with decent value, a couple possible playable cards and 1-2 chaff.
Highlights
Our highlights were a hyperspace Ravager. Ravager looks to be a great role player in the coming meta. It’s not as good as something like Spark of Rebellion Avenger, but it can have a huge impact when played and if your opponent can’t remove it, the game will snowball quickly. It has that imposing inevitability that a Star Destroyer should have.
The Darksaber was a nice pull to make something a significant threat on the ground. It’s a unique card that we’ve never seen before. The ability to have 2 Leader units out on the ground could give control deck fits.

Whistling Birds actually came out of one of the Spotlight Decks, but is a very cool upgrade. Playing this on a leader like Mother Talzin gives you full control of the ground.
Elzar Mann may not be the best legendary in the set, but it’s a very interesting card. He threatens 8 damage the turn you play him. He takes some thoughtful playing to make sure you don’t get punished by letting your opponent grab an event to defeat him or your buffed unit. It’s a great design that makes you have to think.

The star of our box was clearly Pre Visla in the second to last pack. This is the blue finisher Villains have been waiting for since rotation. Vigilance Villain will surely be everywhere to start this new meta, so you’re going to have to play around this guy constantly. If you are playing with it, you better get good at playing chicken, because you don’t want to be the first to play it just to have it defeated by one from your opponent. It’s most likely going to be the biggest $ card in the set, so we were glad to pull one. Now we just need a bunch more!! Ugh….
