ASH: Preview Review 5/22
What’s more fun than Grogu in an IG-11 battle suit?

Action Cheat
Aggro decks like playing as many units as possible and of course attacking directly to the opponent’s base. Because of the all of the actions involved with the deployments and attacks it makes it a bit tricky for the aggro player to claim the initiative. In the past a card like Fleet Lieutenant allowed for the deployment of a unit along with an attack action. That action cheat often times allowed then for the initiative claim while the opponent is still doing stuff.
Does the new Grogu unit do this? Yes. Yes. Yes.
The action cheat in this case is kind of backwards. When you would have a last attack available instead you claim the initiative and then attack.
Gaming this out step by step…
- Turn 1
- Opponent has initiative and plays a unit.
- You play a unit.
- Opponent claims and you pass.
- Turn 2
- Opponent attacks with their unit.
- You play this new Grogu.
- Opponent plays another unit.
- You claim initiative and then attack with your turn 1 unit because of Grogu’s ability.
Going into turn 3 you now have the initiative. Without the action cheat your opponent would still be taking the first action in that round.
Already pretty cool. But wait, there’s more…
Stats
Little guy is sticking around for a bit. Having a total of 8 stat points for 3 cost is very good. Hit points are of course the majority of where those points land and with 6 hp, Gorgu is not going to be very easy to remove from the board.
Perhaps the only downside is that the power side is light and he’s not hitting terribly hard, especially in an aggro deck. FFG likely tested (we hope) the card as a 3/5 and made the decision that 2/6 was overall better for reasons.
Traits
The droid trait isn’t going to get a ton of mileage currently. Having the Force trait is a bit more interesting as Grogu can do some interesting things like activate the Force with the correct base and also suiting him up with a Constructed Lightsaber will also be pretty fun.
So?
Verdict from our end is that this is a card to be pretty excited about. It has good stats, a good ability, and is an iconic character. Certainly feels legendary and we expect it to open up pretty high up on the price charts.
