BREAKING NEWS: New Format Leaked

We have it on good authority that in the coming months, FFG is going to release the rules to a new competitive format in Star Wars Unlimited and will begin holding PQ level events upon the release of the Homeworlds set.

The format looks to shake up the competitive scene by shifting play away from broken interactions and over stated units. Instead it will place direct focus on player skill expression within a leveled playing field where the only unit you are allowed to play is a vanilla 1/1 Porg.

Get ready for Porgternal!!!

  • A fun alternative 1v1 format utilizing the most pushed unit given its cost and stats, the humble Porg. Each deck may contain any number of Porgs but no other units. While other units are banned in this format, leaders, bases, events, and upgrades are not and this is where players are able to use their expression of skill to build an army of Porgs meant to crush the other player.
  • One leader.
  • One base.
  • 50 card deck.
  • No more than one of any card in the deck other than Porg.
  • Unlimited number of Porgs allowed.
  • This is an eternal format that uses its own suspension list maintained by the Porg Players Committee.
  • Note: As of April 1, 2026 there are no suspended cards other than all units not named Porg.
  • You might try to be coy and play a card like On The Doorstep and create three battle droid tokens, but you will find instead you have created 3 Porg units. That’s right, any time you would create a token unit, instead create a Porg. The Porg does retain its printed attributes including its 1/1 stat line even if the token that would have been created has a differing stat line. Notably, these are not just some fodder token units that can be bounced into the ether, these are real deal Porg units, and so if someone were to say try to Waylay or otherwise return the newly created Porg to your hand then it will indeed go into your hand.
  • At this time we do not have a Porg space unit, so the Space arena goes unoccupied, blissfully unaware of the Porg wars happening on the ground.
  • Why of course not, after all this is a format dedicated to the mighty Porg.
  • All leaders have been slapped with some format specific errata and have no game text or power.
  • Leaders can be deployed, get upgraded and attack.
  • Leaders cannot attack bases or Porgs.
  • While the Porg Players Committee does acknowledge that Curious Flock is a group of Porgs, we are at this time not interested in expanding the scope of playable units beyond what we feel is a core mechanic of the format the humble zero cost Porg. As such it is not allowed at competitive tier Porgternal events, however what you do at your kitchen table is between you an your playgroup, and you will not have the Porg police knocking at your door.

The Porg Players Committee monitors the existing meta and determines if and when cards should be suspended from the Porgternal format.

  • Salvage is suspended for being bad in the format and for having Finn on it.
  • Heroic Resolve is on the watch list for having Finn on it.
  • Eternal Format with its own suspension list (currently vacant aside from all non-Porg units)
  • Singleton 50 card decks (with one exception)
  • Unlimited Porg units!!! All other units banned.
  • If a token were to be created, create a Porg unit instead.
  • Leaders may deploy, and attack, but have zero power and are unable to deal combat damage
  • General game rules still apply such as aspect penalties, card restrictions such as “attach to vehicle unit only” and non-unit tokens can be made such as shields, experience and credits.

Note: SWUDB has not been updated yet to support unlimited Porg units. Fill out the remaining deck slots with Porgs until the total cards is equal to 50.
