Maz Kanata

Very interesting and very legendary feeling card.  

A bit under the stat curve at 4/4 for 5.  However the ability, assuming you get to make successful attacks with her, could be very interesting.  Digging into your deck for a unit which then gets played for free or at least with a very high discount could be pretty cool.

Some good targets for this could include the Kimogila Heavy Fighter with some indirect damage as a When Played that could exhaust a few things on your opponent’s side of the board.  Expendable Mercenary would be able to get in for a quick 3 damage and then provide some ramp, although with Maz attacking on the 6 resource turn, you would be ramping to get to 8 and there may not be enough solid payoffs at that point.

An extremely funny play would be to chain the Maz units together.  Swing with one of them, dig for another which you can play for 1.  Swing with that second one, dig and repeat with the third.  Unlikely, sure, but it’d be awesome.

Some potential future design space for Maz could be a reverse Max Rebo.  With Max we are already seeing how the game mechanics could be screwy by adding an additional regroup phase.  What if there is a future unit that has game text along the lines of “Skip a regroup phase this round.”?

Don’t mess with this gamorrean or she may embed that battleaxe right into your head.

Her stats are roughly on curve at 3/5 for 4.  Adding the Raid 2 makes this one effectively a 5/5 when attacking for that cost which is very good.  Stopping there would already make this a pretty solid unit which seems likely to see play and at that point the Restore 2 is just icing on the cake.
