LAW: Preview Reviews 1/31

Card previews from yesterday courtesy of FFG and Wossy Plays.

The Client

A 4/4 shielded leader at 5 resources may be fine.  It doesn’t seem amazing, but it’s not horrible.

The ability of exhausting a unit after a token is created either as an action or on attack feels slow.  Could have been significantly better as an action cheat along the lines of “When a token is created you may exhaust a unit.”  Then even if your opponent had initiative and created anything with a token first you could just automatically trigger the ability.  Alas, that is not the case.

This one may end up being solid in draft and sealed formats.  Just doesn’t look to be immediately top tier meta worthy for Premier.

Anakin’s Podracer

Got another very solid legendary card here.

The ability to ambush in and deal its damage first could make this one of the more efficient removal cards.  Able to take out small units easily or finish off a larger unit later in the game while still leaving a body behind is very powerful.

The only real downside is the 3 power on the podracer.  With so many 2 cost units having 4 hit points that could limit some of the capabilities of this wizard racer.

Anakin Skywalker

Speaking of 2 cost units with 4 hit points, the latest Anakin unit fits right into that mold.  Combining a bounce effect and a healing effect into a single multi-aspect card is a very reasonable outcome for the Cunning Vigilance unit.

Clearly meant as a combo with his podracer, the play line is simple.  Play Anakin round one and ideally have the initiative heading into round two.  Use Anakin’s Podracer to take out your opponent’s round one unit and then potentially bounce the podracer back to your hand.  The heal two is unlikely to come into play at that point unfortunately but could help out with basically any unit and having initiative later in the game.

Champion’s KT9 Podracer

Stats are a little small for a 3 cost unit.  However since creating a credit seems to be roughly worth 1 resource it makes a little more sense.  If you consider this card as a mash up of Unmarked Credits and a 2/3 unit for 2 cost, the picture is quite a bit more clear.

Also, given how much credit creation the Cunning aspect seems to have, even though the unit is smaller than you would normally want in round two, you could be ramping to something large.  Consider an unmarked credit in round 1, and then the KT9 in round 2.  You would then enter round 3 with 4 resources and 2 available credits allowing a 6 drop when your opponent is only on 4.
