Looking Ahead to 2026

As we close out the second year of Star Wars Unlimited and get ready to dive into 2026, here are some things that the Porg Depot team is looking forward to…

Successful Rotation

This is the one.

We’ve known for some time now that the sets from 2024 (SOR, SHD, TWI) would be leaving the Premier format when the first set of 2026 is released.  There has been a ton of talk in various online forums and in game shops around the World related to what exactly will happen, how the meta will shake out, etc.  The concerns range from most of the popular, powerful leaders rotating out of the format to the four available sets being incredibly isolated in their individual mechanics.

It’s significantly hard to know what the state of Premier will be after the rotation simply because we still don’t know about 25% of the cards that will be available since we’ve only seen a couple handfuls from A Lawless Time.

We are not hoping for anything specific from rotation aside from that the game is still healthy afterwards.

Packs Updates

The recently announced booster pack updates are awesome.  Gas.  Fire.  Filled with riz, 67, or whatever denotes good things to the kids these days.

No standard foils.
No bases in the rare slot (after ALT).
More hyperspace cards.
Prestige level one in standard packs.

These changes are massive, especially the foil one.  The vast majority of people simply did not like them.  Yes there are some vocal people out there that do, and well sorry to those folks.

Of course a big part of standard pack value will still be driven by having good rare and legendary cards which so far the previews for A Lawless Time seem very solid.  The booster pack changes themselves are also designed to help keep the pack and box values above water.

Continued Listening

With the pack changes and some other smaller things, it is clear that FFG listens to feedback (good and bad) and reacts to that information in thoughtful and meaningful ways.

Getting into Star Wars Unlimited as a first experience with an FFG game, we’ve personally heard things from detractors that have felt burned in the past by the company.  SWU does not feel like that at all so far, at least to us.  Taking criticism and iteratively improving on the product is what any company should be doing.

Hey FFG… Keep doing this.  You are on the right track.

Sick OP Packs

Did anyone really like the fog borders?  We called them C Tier in our first iteration of a card treatment tier list.  That was potentially being generous.

Based solely on the Rancor art that we’ve seen, the new setup for those cards is just incredible.  The card style is fantastic.  The art, at least in this example, is phenomenal.  These are cards that people will want to go to weekly events to get.

Events

Galactic Championship number two.  Regionals.  Sectors.  Planetary Qualifiers.  Showdowns.  Weeklies.  Outside events like BIATL.  Wish we could get to them all or at least more than time actually allows.

Not even sure this one even needs more commentary to explain why the gatherings of players in one location for a tournament is fun at any level and size of event.

Twin Suns Precons

We at Porg Depot have not really bothered with Twin Suns yet as a format.  The biggest reason is having to build a deck from scratch and have those cards be somewhat segregated from our more competitive decks.

With preconstructed Twin Suns decks available, this will be an awesome way to just grab one and have it one hand.  Then it could be augmented as time goes along.  It’ll just be easier than starting from scratch.

The one weird downside is some of the missing combinations of characters.  No Han & Chewie.  No R2 & 3PO.  No Vader & Tarkin.  Obviously a ton more.  Luckily if the product is successful I’m sure we’ll see more of these in future years.

Icons

Could be cool. High hopes for it, whatever it is.

Porg Tokens

Star Wars Unlimited is a crazy fun game.  We at Porg Depot love it.  We also love parody.
We’ve made porg versions of every token in the game so far.  Already hard at work on some Credit Tokens.  As long as FFG keeps making tokens, we will keep having fun making porg versions to hand out to people.

R2 Leader

Come on now…
We’ve got a 3PO leader now.
We’ve got a Bossk leader and he was in one scene with a costume that was pilfered from Doctor Who.
Heck, we’ve got two Asajj Ventress leaders and she was only ever in cartoons.

It’s time.
Get R2-D2 on a leader card!!

(Bonus points if he’s a rebel and becomes the new “best” aggro leader in Premier.)

Wrap Up

Agree or disagree with any of the above things, or just having additional ones that we didn’t cover are all extremely valid.  One thing is for sure is that if you are reading this, you care about SWU and are looking forward to the year ahead.
