Push the Legendaries Harder

Why is FFG so afraid to push their legendary cards every set?  Are legendary cards stealing their lunch money or threatening the office porg? 

No one wants broken cards that are expensive and warp the meta, but it is also ok to have strong chase cards that are exciting to play. We’ve seen them do it on occasion with Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Poe Dameron.  At this point, those feel more like mistakes than purposefully crafted powerful cards.

One of the most exciting characters in the Star Wars universe right now is Cassian Andor.  He fits perfectly into the theme of espionage and spycraft so it makes 100% sense to include him in Secrets of Power. 

At first glance the new Cassian card seems pretty cool.  He is at worst effectively a 2/4 in stats for 2 cost. It takes a 4/X unit to defeat him.  But this Cassian is legendary! Does he actually feel legendary?

We already have eight 2-cost 2/4 ground units (plus multiple 2/2 shield) units not including SEC that do basically the same thing.  HK is the only other legendary and he doesn’t see much play.  Cassian can soak up unlimited pings from Cad Bane and is immune to Tarkintown where the others can only take so much.  There have been a lot of comparisons to Cassian’s ability being a built-in Boba’s Armor, however, that ability, while good, on a 2/2 unit is not nearly as threatening as on a turn three 4/7 unit.

This is a legendary card.  It doesn’t stack up all that well at 2 cost with something like Battlefield Marine at 3/3 or Gungi at 2/5.   Even staying in the same color (which is a valid argument to make) there is Secretive Sage which is 2/2 for 2, has a shield, and the Force trait.  These are common and uncommon cards that are arguably better.  He’s not much of a step up from Yaddle when you start including rares.

Cassian as a legendary character and card should have been more powerful.  

Cassian could have had another stat point without affecting his overall power level drastically at 3/2 or 2/3.  Add the trait Rebel, since he was one.  Sure you could say that this snapshot of the character is from prior to him being a rebel, but then make this a much lower rarity. This is legendary Cassian Andor, make him the Cassian we all love!  Make him a Saboteur.  Something, anything to push this card to be an actual legendary unit.

It is ok to have powerful cards.
It is ok to have some power creep without going overboard.
It should not be ok to continue to make new legendary cards that just feel “meh”.

Come on FFG designers… push it!!.
