LAW: Top Command Cards
The Porg Depot team has spent the last week dodging Imperial entanglements, bribing Jabba’s guards with expired ration packs, and trying to explain to Albert Porgstein that “tax evasion” isn’t a valid deck archetype. We’ve emerged from the shadows with our top picks for the most porgtastic cards in the Command aspect.
Will these cards dominate the meta?… Maybe
Did we lose half our credits to a rigged Sabacc game while testing?… Definitely.
Are we still finding blue milk stains on the office rug?… Don’t Ask.
Hero

ObiWein: R2-D2
Just like a Swiss Army knife, this little guy can help find all kinds of tools from a deck. When Played effects, digging through your deck, and drawing cards are all really good. This iteration of R2 played in round 1 can help smooth out your hand curve or find a specific combo piece. Five cards is 10% of a normal 50 card deck, and you have a 31% chance to find a copy of a card with three remaining in the 44 cards not seen after drawing the opening hand.
Now if we only had an R2 leader to combo this new unit with… #WheresR2Leader?
Veers21: Rey
This new iteration of Rey may or may not end up as a highly played unit as an 8-cost do nothing vs many decks. With that being said, her existence is fairly important. She potentially acts as a limiter vs control decks that potentially have no way to remove her and at 9/9, she puts a very fast clock on the game. We’ll see if any control decks are able to make their way to the top of the new meta. I’m not sure it has all the tools it needs yet, but if it does we may see a lot of Rey’s in sideboards across the world.
JawaJeff: Massassi Group Marines
This unit may not be very flashy, but it fills an important spot in the curve. Green Villain already had a 3 drop 4/4 vanilla, and now so does command hero. This means it can clean up most turn 1 plays, and survive against 3/5 3 drops. It will be a great card in limited and surely see play in some constructed decks. With the rebel trait, it will continue to create synergy with rebel tribal decks including the new Jyn Erso leader.
Villain

ObiWein: Targeted for Removal
What this card can do is suddenly ramp you up in a big way. Playing on the 5 resource turn to upgrade an opponent’s unit played the prior round would net 1 total to spend in the form of credits (pay 3 to get 4) which then allows a 6 drop to come out. It can get silly from there. Imagine a round 6 play line of putting Targeted for Removal on a 5 cost unit, then attacking with a very angsty teen Boba leader to defeat that unit. You now have 9 resources to spend (3 remaining resources after playing the upgrade on their 5 drop from the prior round, the 5 credits for defeating that unit, and 1 more credit from Boba). Follow that up with something big like Director Krennic SEC or the new Mercenary Fleet and you will really be putting the pressure on your opponent.
Veers21: Bib Fortuna
Bib is a fun thematic card and a cheap way to create a credit token. He’s a little awkward at 2 resources, but he can let you play either two 2 drops on round 2 (One being himself), or a 5 drop on round 3. Assuming you are playing Underworld/Bounty Hunters, which you always are if you are playing Bib, you have some decent options at 5 resources. If you can consistently gain the credit from playing him, he offers some excellent value.
JawaJeff: Ruthless Duo
As a 3/5 for 4 this unit is understatted, however the bounty hunter trait may make him useful with the new Boba Fett leader. Also, the two damage from his when played ability will weaken an enemy unit making it more likely to die to an attack from a unit played on an earlier turn. Boba Fett may not yet have enough units to make a competitive bounty hunter deck, but Ruthless Duo helps create the framework for the deck.
Neutral

ObiWein: C-3PO
Jabba’s interpreter sure has some interesting versatility due to not having the hero aspect. This version of 3PO can easily be a solid first round play in either a Rebel or Underworld deck. Play an associated by trait unit the following round and then attack with the protocol droid to beef that unit up right away. That 3 cost 4/4 Massasi Group Marines is suddenly a way above curve 5/5 in round 2.
Veers21: Follower of the Code
It’s not that this is some incredible 2 drop, but it serves a very specific role of being another 2-cost Bounty Hunter in a card pool without very many of those, and only a couple that the new LAW Boba Fett leader can realistically play. Could it have been a 2/4? Clearly yes, since 2-cost 2/4 units are everywhere. I’m not sure why he’s not 2/4, but this is what we have to work with. If a Boba Fett/Bounty Hunter deck is playable, then this guy will make the cut, for now at least as it won’t take much for him to get outclassed in a future set.
JawaJeff: Expendable Mercenary
Ok, it is no superlaser tech, but post rotation it does create the ramp of an extra permanent resource as opposed to the credit creation that only gives a temporary boost. Also, despite the appeal of credits, it is important to remember they don’t count for getting the all important leader flip any earlier. An expendable mercenary can mean getting those 5+ flip leaders out a turn earlier than expected by your opponent. Having both the bounty hunter and underworld traits will also give it an additional bit of synergy for multiple deck builds.
