LAW: Preview Reviews 2/14
Previews from yesterday courtesy of FFG, TCGPlayer, Spark of the Force, and Rebel Resource.
K-2SO

This iteration of K-2 could be one of the better cards in the set.
His stats are a bit low for a 5 resource unit. A vanilla unit at that cost should have 11 total stats, and K-2SO comes in at 8. However, his ability allows you to deal an additional 3 damage to a damaged unit, which in some ways can be better than having those additional stats added to his power instead since you can split the damage. Plus, Ambush is a nice bonus so that he can impact the board immediately.
The on attack ability could be leveraged a few different ways. If the defending unit has at least 1 damage on it already and less than 6 remaining hit points, K-2 is taking that out. He could get two targets, one with a damage and 3 remaining hit points and another with 3 hit points and no damage. He could also just ambush a target with 3 or less remaining hit points and at least 1 damage and just take them out without taking damage in return. That’s incredible value basically any way he gets leveraged.
He’s limited as to what decks he can play in because of his 3 aspect requirement, but this is the kind of design we like to see for cards that have deck restrictions.
Liberty

Liberty is a nice looking capital ship that could fill the hole that would be missing from Home One rotating out. A 9/7 Sentinel has a big impact on the board and the When Played/On Attack has the added benefit of keeping something exhausted on the ground, essentially helping control both arenas.
This also fits nicely into the new Lando leaders aspects, giving him a good option to play in space, which was a little lacking. Liberty should be one of the better large space units available for heroes.
Bossk

It’s been a pretty good week for Bounty Hunters, capped off on Friday with some excellent units. Bossk is a touch understatted with 8 total stats instead of 9, but makes up for that easily with his On Attack ability. He can give himself the +1/+1 and his target the -1/-1, essentially making him hugely overstatted for that attack, or spread the buffs and debuffs around. He looks like a fantastic unit and at only 4 resources, fits nicely into a lot of decks.
Zuckuss

Zuckuss comes along as another 4 cost Bounty Hunter with some great 2 for 1 possibilities. His 8 total stats are, again, just a touch understatted, but like other cards we’ve seen today, makes up for it with his ability. He has a very similar ability to K-2SO with just different restrictions required to trigger. In the right deck it could even be easier to trigger, and he comes out a turn earlier.
Imagine playing Zuckuss on round 3, deploying Boba Fett leader on round 4. Attacking with Zuckuss doing 3 damage to base and 3 to a unit. Then, follow that up with 4-LOM on Zuckuss doing 3 more damage to units twice. That is a pretty devastating sequence of actions. We love to see the Bounty Hunters team up like this and it’s the exact type of synergy that is so fun to play with between 4-LOM and Zuckuss.
Tear This Ship Apart

This kind of has to be a legendary, but that doesn’t mean it’s good. Sure, you could play it for 7 and snag an 11 cost Star Destroyer and even without that, you are probably fairly likely to get 7 resources worth out of it. The problem comes down to not knowing what you are going to be playing and if it is something you want to play. Why not just play with a 7-cost card that you do want to play and not worry about rolling the dice.
The 7 resource turn is not the one you want to be rolling the dice with, not to mention this card is basically garbage vs aggro. Maybe there could be a fun Barriss Offee Command deck that can let you play this for 6 and still follow it up with your own big 7-cost unit. Paying 6 lowers the risk and raises the reward enough to maybe be ok. It’s unlikely to be competitive, but could make for a fun deck.
Undercity Hunting Team

Looks like a decent card. Cost of 5 for a 5/5 with a When Played effect is on curve and solid. The specific effect of digging for another Bounty Hunter is a nice way to set up for the following round. Very easy to see this getting paired with the new Boba Fett leader in an aspect combo that is lacking in 5 cost bounty hunters. Yellow has 4-LOM and Boba Fett unit make it less likely to fit there. Blue only has the Cad Bane from SEC so a second option that replaces itself could be a useful tool.
