LAW: Preview Reviews 2/6
Preview cards from yesterday were courtesy of FFG, Golden Dice, and Mobyus1.
Sabine Wren

Can’t have a Premier format without some Sabine. With Galvanized Revolutionary, Explosives Artist, and You Can Count On Me all about to exit Premier, we have a new iteration of the character to slot into decks.
Spectre Five is very solid. Ambush could be the key here as a 3 cost 3/3 would normally be considered too expensive. With that keyword and the ability to clear off a pesky shield token, This Sabine can take out all of those annoying 2/2 shielded units with ease.
Unsure how easy the additional piece will be to pull off. It may only come into play in a dedicated Hera deck, or in fringe cases of limited with a splashed off aspect unit.
Benthic “Two Tubes”

The new iteration of Benthic “Two Tubes” comes in as a 2 cost 3/2, albeit with a couple upsides of being able to deal 1 extra damage to a unit on attack and 1 damage to base when defeated. It’s not that Two Tubes is a bad card, but in a world with a plethora of high level 2 drops at 2/4, there may not be a palace for him. Best case scenario he can trade with a 2/4 and deal 1 extra point to base, if you have initiative. Worst case they just take him out with their unit and you’re left with nothing while they have a 2/1 left on the board.
There was a time when this card would have been amazing. Now may not be that time.
Fire Across the Galaxy

Obviously this goes into a Spectre themed deck and likely not much else. Given that all of the new A Lawless Time Spectre units have When Played abilities it’s at least got some level of potential.
- Ezra Bridger = Heal 2 from a unit (or 4)
- Zeb Orellios = Deal 3 to a ground unit (or 5)
- Chopper = Give an Experience to himself (or 2)
- The Ghost = Give an Experience and Shield to a unit (or 2 units)
- Sabine Wren = Defeat a non-unique upgrade (or any upgrade)
- Kanan Jarrus = Return a non-leader costing 2 or less (or 4 or less)
- Phantom = Play a heroic unit from hand and give it an Experience
Will it be enough though to make the Spectre team solid enough for the top tables? Not sure, but people are going to try it. 6 cost is still expensive and the generated value will be extremely dependent on the number of Spectres in play. Kudos in advance to any players that get the full Yahtzee of benefit from this card from having all seven of them out at once.
The Ghost

Let’s start off with, this card is probably a bomb in limited where it won’t be out of the question to activate the second instance of the when played. In premier it will most often come in as 5/5 worth of stats plus a shield for 6. You can spread around the experience and shield, but overall, it’s not very impactful for 6 resources. For all the restrictions The Ghost has for aspects, it would be nice to see it do more. This could have easily just been a Command Hero card. Vigilance is more associated with shields, so it’s not even clear what the cunning aspect is bringing to the card, other than making it difficult to play.
Toydarian Technician

We already have Chandrilan Sponsor which is a 2/3 for 2 with Restore 2, in Vigilance Hero. The Toydarian Technician moves one of the restores to +1 raid, so you’re not being offered much more in overall power level, arguably less, but adding a second colored aspect in Cunning to it. Underworld is a more relevant trait than Official, and this one can be played in Villain decks, but what Villain deck is looking for this?
Toydarian Technician falls in the category of probably good in limited, but not good enough for Premier.
Betrayed Trust

This card presents an interesting tempo play for vigilance. The fact that the target can’t do any combat damage may have the same basic effect of exhausting an opponent’s unit for any card without an on attack trigger or ability such as restore, since attacking would otherwise serve no purpose. What possibly makes it better than simply exhausting your opponent’s unit is that you can attack into the unit without any of your own units taking damage. With less direct removal in vigilance post rotation, this may see some play.
Jango Fett

In contrast to The Ghost, Jango feels like he fits in very well with his aspects. He’s a Bounty Hunter with Shielded and can exhaust a unit on attack.
Now the card itself….it’s slow. Assuming you can’t give it Ambush, a 6 cost shielded unit that doesn’t affect the board until the following turn is typically not good enough to be impactful. Where Jango has a chance to shine is if you can give him Ambush. Mobyus offered an initial Jabba deck to highlight Jango, and he’s potentially very good in that shell. Ambush lets you exhaust a unit and defeat another using his shield, leaving behind a 6/5 unit. That’s great value. The timing is a little awkward since Jabba deploys on 6 and you have to use a credit to give Jango Ambush, which leaves you with 1 ready resource. This is an instance where Jango may have been better as a 7-cost unit with higher stats that could curve perfectly into the new Jabba deployment.
Either way, Jango is probably not a great card in a vacuum, but in the right deck he could offer some excellent value.
