SWU Things to be Thankful For 2025

As the US hits Thanksgiving this year there are many things related to Star Wars Unlimited to be thankful for. Here are some that are worth considering.

Recap of 2024

We made a similar list last year and figured why not do it again.
Our prior topics included:

Healthy Game

This one stays on the list from last year since the game is still healthy. The meta is pretty open at least heading into the Secrets of Power qualifier season. We may eat those words in about a month if everything in dominated by Data Vault decks, but at least for now we’re sticking with it.

Porgs

We now have the additions of both the Porg and Curious Flock unit cards, the later of which we got to preview. Having the namesake of our site as a playable card has been cool to see and extremely amusing when we’ve been asked to sign them.

Porg Depot Fans

Going to events and seeing people get excited over silly porg versions of token cards is pretty fun. Having people reach out to discuss a post on our site and share feedback (good and bad) is great. Seeing our tools get used in other creators’ videos is amazing. Really, just knowing that the content and tools that a few childhood friends are producing does in fact get absorbed by people daily has made the first year plus of Porg Depot extremely fun for us.

SWU Community

The amount of Discord messages, Reddit and Facebook posts, conversations at events… It all adds to the community aspect of this game. Sure there are times that people disagree in these forums, but those differences of opinion are generally well natured discussions. People playing this game seem for the most part to be good humans.

FFG Team

Everyone from FFG (and Asmodee) that the Porg Depot team has met at events are just great people. They all seem to clearly love this game and it comes across as very genuine.

Iterative Improvement

Whether the day to day line management and queues getting handled better at the Galactic Championship, or the reassessment of suspended cards to keep the meta healthy, the SWU universe is capable of small periodic changes that help make the game and environment better. Of course we hope that this will continue and currently there is not a reason to expect otherwise since we know there are upcoming pack changes to get announced, a rotation to satisfy some and help transform the meta, plus new sets and design space to get explored.

C-3PO Leader

Now that we have the professor in the game as a leader, getting an R2-D2 leader at some point in the future seems inevitable. For now we are still thankful to have four R2 unit cards in the game (at least three of which are playable) with another on the way in A Lawless Time.

Other Things…?

The above is of course not all encompassing. Many glass half empty folks may find listing out the positive values of a game to be a waste of time. It is however that time of year to be thankful (at least in the United States) and outside the more mainstream things like family and health, we can all be thankful for having this great game.
