A Lawless Time Speculation
It’s that time again. Secrets of Power has been released, so it’s time to start wildly speculating on what the next set, A Lawless Time, might bring to the game.
** Small disclaimer up front. This is all entirely speculation. Porg Depot has no advance knowledge of anything coming in the next set at least at the time we wrote and posted this.
Time Period
Seems like the focus could be on the time period after Return of the Jedi and before the formation of the New Republic. The Mandalorian could be playing a large role here.
Reprints
When A Lawless Time releases, that will mark the first rotation for Star Wars Unlimited. Spark of Rebellion, Shadows of the Galaxy, and Twilight of the Republic will all cease to be legal for premier play. Currently there are many staple cards in those sets that could see reprints.
What actually gets reprinted, if anything, will be a topic of much discussion over the next few months. Our top bet would be the double aspect legendary cards from Spark of Rebellion that represent the names of each aspect: Cunning, Vigilance, Aggression, and Command. The fact that these four cards were recently given special promo variants makes it feel weird if they were just suddenly gone from Premier.
Our next batch of guesses would be along the lines of staple type cards that help define each aspect. Waylay for example in Cunning, or Resupply in Command.

Shadowy Underworld
The word “Lawless” screams that we are going to be getting a deeper exploration of the Star Wars underworld. Shadows of the Galaxy provided only an initial glimpse into this darker side of the universe. There’s just so much more potential in this thematic space.

Bounty & Smuggle 2.0
Everyone would love to see more support for previous mechanics. With a possible return of underworld themes a pretty easy extrapolation would be to see bounties and smuggling make a comeback.
Specific Leaders
There are absolutely going to be new leaders. It would be crazy tricky to play sealed and draft without them. Getting some that are in the lawless, wild West kind of theme might make sense.
Here’s a few thoughts on some specific ones:
- Din Jarin
- Cobb Vanth
- Migs Mayfield
- Maybe new versions of Qi’ra or Cad Bane
- It’s been 2 whole sets without a Boba Fett or Han leader, so it feels safe to say we’ll see them here
- Some other bounty hunters
- Grogu as a 3 cost leader would be interesting.
- R2… Please? Not sure how the little guy would fit the theme, but 3PO has political power apparently so why not?
Time Tokens
We don’t necessarily need new tokens. However, if we are going to have something new please don’t have it be Time Tokens that are somehow used as another resource. We’ve seen additional resource types in other games, and it complicates things.
How are they used? Not a clue, but Time Tokens may mess with something related to time and timing. Could be used to somehow control the order of actions. Maybe they are only useful in control decks and if you accumulate enough of them you can either add or remove time in the match as would help you out.
Note: even the porgs think that any timey-wimey stuff is a terrible idea unless the Doctor is involved.

Some Other Token
FFG likes to make tokens. Porg Depot likes to make parody tokens with porgs on them. While time tokens seem kind of horrendous, having some tokens seems like a given.
Shield and Experience tokens are a high likelihood.
Could be something in the unit space that would be thematic to “Lawless”. Maybe bandit tokens. They could be the underworld’s answer to spy tokens. Also, on a personal note, we’re just looking for an excuse to make a Porgy the Kid token. Granted the spies should have saboteur and the bandits the ones with raid, but maybe 3/1 with Overwhelm?

Tyler’s Teaser
Tyler Parrot recently sat for an interview with Pure Sabacc. At about the 30:30 mark he says, “…one of the main themes and/or mechanics of A Lawless Time is something that people have talked about in the community, talked about and/or requested, and/or speculated for a while that we haven’t done yet and now we’re finally doing it.”
The best idea our porgs came up with is the idea of multi-aspect colored cards. Excluding hero and villain aspects, nothing currently carries two colors. Could we finally be seeing cards that are Aggression and Cunning for example. Porg Depot speculated previously that something like this could have been the basis for “legends” content prior to Legends of the Force.
Other games have done things like this with successful outcomes. It would also be “lawless” in terms of going against the grain of the current card templates that we have become accustomed to so far.

So what’s that going to be exactly? No idea, but apparently we as a community have already hit on it in some manner. Let the speculation run wild on this one.
