Breaking News: LOF Previews

By now you’ve likely seen the new Kanan Jarrus leader who brings some long awaited creature synergy to the game.  There haven’t been many creatures through the first 4 sets, but there have been good ones.  (Krayts can have shields now.)  We’ll take a look at one older creature, plus a couple new creature synergies with some Legends of the Force cards.

A 4/7 Sentinel is not something you can ignore in the ground arena and Bendu is exactly that. Coincidentally, Bendu, The One In the Middle deploys at the same resource cost that Kanan would hit the ground arena.  Kanan then becomes a 5/8 with the +2/+2 bonus from having a creature in play, is sitting behind a pretty large sentinel to help protect him, and deploys with a shield for good measure.

Plus with Bendu in play the next non-heroic, non-villain card you play costs two less.

Luckily, there is a new card that fits that criteria perfectly. Porg Depot is pleased to reveal:

Malakili – Loving Rancor Keeper

No need to shed a tear for Malakili this time around as he reunites with his creature pals.  You can’t talk Malakili without talking about Rancors.  Catch this guy on the street after work and he’ll tell you all you ever wanted to know about Rancors, and many things you didn’t.

Not only does Malakili help you ramp into Jabba’s Rancor, he can even prevent the 3 damage, completely eliminating the negative effect.

The possibilities range anywhere from playing Jabba’s Rancor for 6 with Malakili and Jabba leader all the way to “What just happened?!”…Round 1, play Malakili.  Round 2, play Resupply.  Round 3, play Jabba’s Pet via a Sneak Attack.

Or maybe Malakili would like to slide into Han Solo, Worth the Risk’s DMs and help drop some 2-cost Wampas or 7-cost Krayt Dragons?

And let’s not overlook some smaller creature deployment possibilities created by Malikili that are no less powerful. How about a Salacious Crumb for free alongside Malakili on round 1?

Here at Porg Depot we are a little saddened that the new Porg card doesn’t get a Malakili benefit since it’s already free.

But what if we had… MORE PORGS!!! Porg Depot is also thrilled to reveal:

Curious Flock

1/1 for 1 resource cost may not seem like much, but this card is an ultimate way to leverage every existing spare resource on a turn.

  • Want a single little porg?  No problem.
  • A pair of porgs?  No sweat.
  • A murder of porgs (locally known on Kashyyyk as a feast of porgs)? Piece of cake.
  • Grab them by the half dozen?  Got you covered there too.
  • Need 9 porgs for your softball team?   Too bad!  You can only go up to a 7/7 for 7 resources, which, trust us, is still a ton of porgs.

Even Mace Windu himself is wary of this power saying “The porgs multiply… and with each one, the Force trembles. This is not strategy. This is a disturbance.”

Plus our new feathered friends combo well with Kanan and Malakili. You can start with a 1/1 with a shield on turn 1 for 2 total cost and go up to a 7/7 with a shield for 8 cost.  Or Malakili alone lets you play a 2/2 for 1 resource, and up to a 7/7 monster for 6 resources.

With all those options, who needs Jedis?! And while not infinite, the permutations here are numerous.

No aspect requirement, also means Curious Flock could easily be a big player in draft and sealed formats where you don’t always have something to play every turn on curve. Curious Flock will be a great way to maximize your resources.  Even moreso when paired with either Malakili and/or Kanan.  Lastly, at only common rarity, you could be overwhelming your opponent with porgs so be sure to grab them when they come around in your first drafts.

Wrap Up

Hopefully everyone will enjoy deck crafting around creatures now with Malakili and Kanan.  Plus no creature deck could possibly be complete without Porg and Curious Flock. Rumor has it that Sir Isaac Porgston and Albert Porgstein are already hard at work in the lab on a Porg/Gor/Now There are Two of Them deck, insisting that the laws of porgodynamics demand multiplication.

Thanks to all those that came to Porg Depot to view these spoilers.  Thank you also to FFG for giving us the opportunity to do so. We hope to see Porgs delivering fatal blows in Worlds in July.
