Rollin’

BB-8 has a card finally. My 11 year old daughter can rejoice as her favorite character has made it into Star Wars Unlimited. The fact that the card seems good at first glance is a plus.

There are a few easy comparisons with BB-8 just due to the deployment cost, power and health. Both of them are R2-D2.

Aspect limitation aside, all three of these cards are one to deploy for a 1/4 unit. The easier comparison is the new R2 as they are both pilots and are a closer match with BB-8 having a one cost for +1/+2 upgrade as a pilot, and R2 being free for +1/+1. The resource cost giving that extra point of health in return.

Piloting obviously adds a ton of versatility to the units that have it giving the option of being an upgrade for a vehicle or just a unit. BB-8 has some additional options in the essentially three cost deployment option that allows a Resistance unit to ready. Three options in total then, 1 for a 1/4 ground unit, 1 for a +1/+2 vehicle upgrade, or 3 for +1/+2 upgrade that readies another unit. This may be one of the more versatile cards yet in a game that is not a double aspect event.

The third option is an obvious combo with Poe Dameron. Drop Poe on the five resource turn, on the follow up turn, swing with Poe, deploy BB-8 to some vehicle, and then ready and swing with Poe again. Granted needing the vehicle in play means this is a three card combo that would be statistically unlikely. However, it’s just part of the versatility of BB-8 and not the only play scenario that you are banking on.

The just revealed Tactical Heavy Bomber is another nice target. Play that out into the space arena. Attack with it during the next round for 3 damage plus another 3 of indirect damage. Then put little BB-8 on that sucker, ready it and swing again for 4 damage plus another 4 of indirect damage. Seems fun. Seems good.

There are likely other targets coming that have yet to be spoiled that will combo well with BB-8. Just a guess, but expecting there to be at least one 2 cost Resistance tagged ship that could deploy round 1, swing round 2, get BB-8 as a pilot for 3, ready and swing again.

Actually, could put R2 on that ship as well for the extra bump at no cost other than the card from hand. Droids unite!!!

Looking forward to rolling out this new BB-8 card in some decks soon.
