Showcase Pricing November 25, 2024
Big event in the UK and multiple other decent sized events around the World. Let’s take a look at the impact to Showcase pricing.
** Data gathered from TCGPlayer at ~7:30am EST. Full data set here.
Current Top 10
Jango Fett maintains the top spot as most valuable showcase leader by price. He represented a significant portion of the field in the UK and was seen in multiple top 8 spots over the weekend. Number of listings has gone down from 11 to 9 over the past few days and there have only been a few sales. The large percentage drop in pricing could be due to existing listings getting repriced potentially due to his complete dominance of the meta being a bit overblown. Expect this to come down farther as more Twilight of the Republic packs are opened and the supply increases overall.
Chancellor Palpatine is the sole showcase in the top 10 that actually gained on the week. Same number of listings but there were a few sales that could have driven up the price some. Additionally the unique mechanics of this leader could be making it take a bit longer for people to figure it out and make him successful.
Sabine Wren‘s big drop from a week ago is very likely due to the immediate hype of her potential to dominate the meta in the post Boba suspension universe.
Winners and Losers
Many of the winners are likely being propelled by increasing usage in the meta, which would drive demand higher and therefore prices as well.
Race to the Bottom
Jyn Erso maintains her “lead” here as the cheapest showcase. No actual sale volume for her over the past week, but the number of listings has increased slightly from 24 to 28 over the past few days.
Nute Gunray is oddly up from last week likely due to a relatively high volume with 11 sales over the past week. Exactly why there was a high volume it’s hard to say other than him being cheap and new so people could be jumping on the low cost listing to fill out their Twilight sets.
Additional Comments
Keep in mind that all showcase cards are relatively low volume in sales when compared to Legendary and Rare cards. A single listing and sale could skew some of this data. TCGPlayer tries to compensate for this by listing a “Market Price” in addition to the actual price of available listings. The TCG site refers to this as “This price point is compiled from recent sales completed on TCGplayer.com. TCG Market Price is updated as transactions complete and reflects the best suggested retail price of a product.”
Additionally we are still very early in the Twilight of the Republic Meta. As more tournament results roll in over the next few weeks and then Planetary Qualifier season kicks off we may see some shifts in the overall showcase pricing.
