Cheating Stinks

Please don’t cheat. Cheating at a game is silly.

The level of the event should not matter. Weeklies, Showdowns, Planetary Qualifiers, etc. Heck, even playing for fun at the kitchen table. People should rely on their deck building and play skill to overcome their opponents in each round.

Honest mistakes do happen. I’ve played on stream before and been told afterwards that both myself and my opponent did math incorrectly which may have altered the outcome of one of our games, but luckily not the match itself. I’ve watched friends play at top tables of tournaments and mentioned to them afterwards that they made some mistake which could have been considered cheating. In these instances I have first hand knowledge of knowing it was simply an unintentional mistake on my part or directly speaking with the person that had not realised they did something wrong.

This weekend there was a potential incident of cheating at an event which was captured on a live stream. Hopefully this was an honest mistake by the player and ideally it did not have a major impact on the outcome of the game or match. The judges at the event may have seen and dealt with the situation.

While it’s nice to look at things and try to think the best of people, it’s just sometimes not the case. There are plenty of nefarious people out there. There are of course prizes on the line. Sometimes those prizes are big and lucrative. People will try to do things to get any edge possible to try to win and there are ways to do so without cheating.

As an appeal from a player that loves this still relatively new game… Please don’t cheat no matter the stakes. People are trying to have fun and it’s stuff like this that can turn people off to the competitive scene of a game. We’re trying to grow this game and expand the community and things like cheating could get in the way of those goals.
